  • It is important to spend time maintaining a healthy glow and a clear skin. You may need to try many different skin cleaning options for this but find the one that suits you best.
  • Keep your hair looking healthy and shiny all the time, you never know who and when you might get "noticed". Depending on your styling some modelling agencies do look for the "natural greasy look" so this can work in your favour as well, find a look that works for you.
  • Body shape and Fitness is crucial. If you can afford it work with a personal trainer who only trains models. Talk with them about your modelling goals and what shape and look you want to achieve.

    Decide on what type of Model you want to be and start to educate yourself

    By definition, anyone can be a model, however not everyone can be a Lingerie Model. When it comes to lingerie modelling you can fit into a number of different types

  • A Plus Size Lingerie Model: Some women have a naturally full and curvaceous body, there is a growing demand for plus size lingerie models and you may fit perfectly into this type of modelling. Plus size does not, however, mean overweight.
  • A Catwalk lingerie Model: If you are thinking of modelling lingerie down a catwalk you generally need to be at least 5'6, extremely skinny, and generally medium to full-breasted. Normal catwalk models need to be small-breasted.
  • A Print Lingerie Model: Lingerie models that are in the editorial pages are at least 5'7, with a very beautiful face and as random as it is a great personality is also very important.
  • In general a Lingerie model is required to have large breasts and small hips. It is crucial that you work on and develop your own "look", spend the time looking at different shoots and try and mimic the looks and poses of the models, the more you are equipped for the first interview, the better.

    Remember to educate and arm yourself with as much information as possible, read quality articles, books and guides, as they will help you to improve the core skills (posing) and to better appreciate and understand how the modelling industry works (finding an agent, etc.). Most of all be careful and always research your job offers thoroughly.

    Preparing your Lingerie Modelling Portfolio

    Putting together your first portfolio is an exciting time, again make sure you research and take notes. It is often advisable to have a couple of different portfolios available depending on the type of agency you are going to see. Here are some tips

  • Have some shots taken that are Natural. Prepare some shots of you close-up and without a lot of makeup, try and make these shots be on a plain background. Aim to shoot them in a natural light and avoid having distractions in the shots. The goal of these shots is to give them to agencies and they can see you in your raw state. Aim for a head shot, a full body shot, and your profile shots.
  • If you can afford it get some professional shots taken. Having a professional photographer work with you, even if you are the one paying them, will give you an idea as to your look, which you can work on to improve if needed. Professional shots are often required in a modelling interview so they are worthwhile acquiring as soon as possible
  • Have your best professional photos printed a number of times with a the size 8 x 10s. Often you can be asked to leave a shot so they can discuss further before your second interview. If you can afford it, collate all your shots into a professional portfolio binder and take this with you to your agency interviews.
  • Know your measurements off the top of your head, the key measurements you need to know are;
    1. Basic height, weight measurements and your shoe size.
    2. These should already be on the top of your head, but know your dress size, waist, hip, and chest etc... 3. Work out your specific hair colour, skin tone, eye colour, etc...
